I used to spend every summer down in Dorset (well actually it was Bournemouth, but Dorset sounds more glam). I am a huge fan of the south of England and today’s post has some ideas on where to go, brought to you by Haven Holiday Parks:
From east to west, the South of England has plenty to offer for a great family holiday. Norfolk, Essex and Dorset are three of the nation’s favourite holiday destinations and generations of visitors go back year after year for more.
Whichever park you stay at, you’ll have great coastline and dozens of great visitor attractions right on your doorstep. But don’t just take our word for it – pick a county and experience a holiday in the south of England for yourself.
Head to the most easterly English county for your next holiday and you won’t be disappointed. Not only does East Anglia get less rain than the west, it also has plenty of tourist attractions to keep you occupied that are all within a short distance of your holiday park.
Once you’ve unpacked and explored your holiday park, head to Africa Alive to experience the plains of Africa… in Norfolk! Take part in a walking safari to get up close and personal with the animals and discover the sights and sounds of Africa. See lions, zebras, giraffes, cheetahs, hyenas and meerkats, all from the comfort of Norfolk.
After that, make your next day out Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park. This American style theme park has something for everyone, including thrill rides, family rides and a kiddie zone, and some really big rides for the thrill seekers among you. Travel at 50mph on Wipeout, the region’s largest rollercoaster, then take on your opponents in the Laser Labyrinth. With loads static caravans for sale in Norfolk, don’t hang about booking your next holiday down south!
For a holiday that takes you back 200 million years to when dinosaurs roamed the earth, head west to Dorset. Rockley Park Holiday Park is at the heart of the Jurassic Coast and the region’s dinosaur past is a great way to keep the kids entertained.
Chesil cove is one of the best places in the county for fossil hunting and a stunning coastal location. It’s part of the 17 mile long Chesil Beach and if you look carefully enough along the tide line, you might even find a few fossils to take home as souvenirs.
Great holidays don’t have to be far away from home either. Haven Orchards Holiday Village Essex is just a short drive from London and not far from the historic city of Colchester – Britain’s oldest recorded town. Here you’ll find Colchester Castle to satisfy the culture vultures among you as well as dozens of great places to eat and drink.
And for a great family day out you can take the kids to Colchester Zoo. With penguins, rhinos, leopards, daily displays and adventure play areas there’s loads to keep the whole family occupied. And if your bigger kids prefer a more adventurous day out, head to Adventure Island – a fun park with free admission and big and small rides to cater to all ages and preferences.
