When I’ve lost inspiration on where to go and how to travel, I seek out guidance from fellow travel bloggers. I love the writing style in travel blogs, it’s fairly uncensored and you feel you’re really getting an opinion rather than a PR post. This week, I introduce you to Tamala from the fab blog Chic Family Travels:
When and why did you start blogging?
I started blogging 3 years ago. I found my love of writing in law school, and missed writing since I retired from practicing law. I discovered that travel blogging was an outlet for two of my passions in life which are travelling with my family and writing.
Also, travel blogging is my version of scrapbooking. I never got the scrapbooking bug, so I found my own way of documenting my family vacations!
It was not until recently that I realized that people other than my mother were reading the stuff that I write. I am still astonished when a PR agency calls me to write an article or a hotels asks our family to review their property. This was never my intention, but most good businesses start with a passion instead of a financial objective.
Tell us about you and your family. Where do you live and what do you do?
We are a family of 5 that includes children ages 12, 9 and 3. The youngest has made our family vacations a bit more..um..interesting. He definitely threw a kick into my wanderlust, but I have also learned so much about traveling with toddlers because of him. In fact, he is the reason for one of my articles that I am most proud of: The Top 5 Luxury Resorts for Toddlers Under 3.
Our family lives in Fairhope Alabama which is on the Alabama/Florida line. In fact, we are very close to the Gulf Coast beaches. We own and operate our family property management company, Prickett Properties, that manages Alabama and Florida vacation rentals.
What’s your favourite luxury family friendly destination?
Now, this is a hard question for any travel enthusiast! I love so many, and I am still discovering more. To date, I would say that I love Buccament Bay in St. Vincent the best because of all the luxury amenities and children’s activities that are included in the room rate.
Have you ever had any vacation disasters?
Yes, where would you like me to start! The most recent was on our ski trip to Telluride. My husband got severe altitude sickness and ended up on oxygen for half of the trip. On the last day, I got a stomach virus and we had to delay our flight home because I could not fly. Yeah, that trip pretty much sucked.
What are your top 3 family travel tips?
I have several, but my top three are to research, plan and relax! It is important to research every detail of your trip and itinerary ahead of time, and then plan accordingly. After that, it is time to relax because it is vacation after all 🙂 Your plans may change or unexpected things happen while on vacation that you cannot avoid, so relax and go with the flow.
Tamala is traveling with her posh brood of 5 to find the top luxury family hotels and family vacation ideas for your own chic traveling family.
