One of the biggest game changers for family travel has been the invention of a folding buggy that you can bring onboard as cabin baggage. There are a few different ones on the market now but the Grande Dame of them all is the BABYZEN YOYO+. We decided to put this buggy through its paces, testing it on several trips abroad and also round the city. As Jetlag & Mayhem are now out of strollers (another game changer.. when they can walk through an airport!), my lovely friend Shoshana and her brood, got the job of reviewing it.
We used the BABYZEN YOYO+ as our only stroller on our two recent trips, to London and to Hanoi. We have four kids; 6 months, 2.5 years, 5.5 and almost 8. At some point over both trips they all sat in the Yoyo but it was mostly used for our 6 month old.
How comfortable is it?
The baby found it comfortable although her head is quite small and it didn’t have the best support as she was only just 6 months when we used it.
The recline is decent, but does not recline all the way back which would be better.
How easy it is to move?
It’s every easy to push and maneuver. The major pro of the stroller is that its so lightweight. Despite this it’s sturdy which is great.
How easy it is to open?
Incredibly easy to open and you can easily do this with one hand! Which is fantastic!
How easy is it to close?
This is definitely a negative – both my nanny and I caught our fingers inside the metal as we folded it. Even though we both knew how to close it, on each occasion our finger was in slightly the wrong place and got caught pretty badly between the metal. Very painful!
What’s the storage like?
Storage under the buggy is not the greatest. The design means there are 2 plastic rods blocking half the basket at the bottom. We managed to squeeze a lot of stuff under there, but it was not easy, especially when traveling!
How is it for travel?
It is an excellent stroller for traveling, as the convenience of it folding so small makes traveling so easy – especially getting on and off the plane! It was great when we landed in the early hours of the morning and my 7 year old hasn’t slept all flight and suddenly crashed in the stroller!
Did the airlines have a problem with it?
We were warned in advance that we would have a problem taking it on board, but both HK Airlines and Virgin didn’t even question it! They both asked to see the bag that it fits in to, and were happy for us to take it on.
The BABYZEN YOYO+ serves its purpose really well. I would definitely recommend it as a second stroller or a stroller to travel with.
Cons – not easy to fold, with little storage space and not the best recline
Pros – Very easy to push, fits into the tiniest spaces which makes it fantastic and I’m actually going to miss having it! We used it every day that we had it on loan for!
Jetlag & Mayhem was sent a BABYZEN YOYO+ stroller on loan for review. I was not paid for this and it’s all my opinon (well Shoshana’s..)
